You always want to make sure that you tell your physician about ALL of the drugs that you are currently taking, even over-the-counter drugs, herbals remedies and ointments to avoid any potentially dangerous drug interactions from occurring. Patients who are currently taking drugs containing Probenecid (Benemid) and cimetidine (Tagamet, Tagamet HB) may or may not be able to take Valtrex. Ask your doctor if Valtrex is right for you.
Only take this drug exactly as directed and if you miss a dose take it at the first chance you get and keep taking your other regularly scheduled doses at their scheduled times. Women who are currently nursing a child should discuss with their doctor their options as this drug can be passed on to the child through the breast milk. Patients who suffer from a weakened immune system or kidney disease may not be able to take this drug.
