Prevacid (lansoprazole) is an anti-acid medication used to treat patients who are suffering from acid reflux, persistent heartburn and stomach ulcers.
Prevacid works by reducing the amount of acids and digestive juices that your stomach creates, which can backup the lower end of the esophagus and cause the symptoms consistent with acid reflux and persistent heartburn or ulcers.
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is caused by the stomach overproducing acid and digestive juices which can overflow into the esophagus. There are some foods that you should avoid if you suffer from GERD:
Only take this drug as directed to by your doctor. Take each pill by mouth with a full glass of water, avoid chewing or crushing the tablets. If you miss taking a dose make sure that you take it as soon as you can and continue to take your other regularly scheduled doses.
In order to avoid any reaction or drug interactions from occurring make sure that you tell your doctor about ALL of the drugs that you are currently taking. Women who are pregnant or nursing should let their physician know before taking this drug. Some people may not be able to take this drug including those who suffer from liver disease.
